Performance with Recitative, 1991

In the festival hall of the University of Innsbruck a critical book edited by Charly Stark and Richard Jochum is presented. After introductory words by the Dean of the Jesuit Faculty the room is darkened. Loudspeakers play back the following text: Voice 1: "The world will better no longer! The world will better no longer!" Voice 2: "Don't say that, listen to me! Don't say that, listen to me!” Again voice 1: "The world will better no longer! The world will better no longer!" Voice 2: "Don't say that, listen to me! Don't say that, listen to me!” Again voice 1: “The world will better no longer! You have to believe me!” Taped drilling machine sound follows. The sequenz repeats itself: First voices, then drilling machine sound. Meanwhile an actress crosses the room followed by a light line. She stops in front of a pedestal that carries on top of it a wedged bible and a drilling machine. Again the audience hears the drilling sound from the tape that starts becoming silent while the woman takes the drilling machine and screws through the text in real. End of the performance, begin of the buffet.
